19 Days Pisang Peak Climbing Overview

Ascend to the summit of Pisang Peak (6,091m / 19,984 ft) and be mesmerized by the breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding Annapurna range and the picturesque Manang Valley. For those seeking to conquer a trekking peak in the Annapurna region of Nepal, Pisang Peak offers an exhilarating and highly rewarding expedition.

Pisang Peak is a striking pyramidal peak, rising majestically above the yak pastures and the traditional village of Pisang. Its steep ice and rock faces present a technical climbing challenge, making it ideal for climbers seeking to hone their mountaineering skills. Despite the demands, the reward is an unparalleled vista that includes iconic peaks like Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Tilicho Peak, Gangapurna, and various other stunning glaciers, all set against the backdrop of the secluded Manang Valley. This climbing journey often takes on a spiritual dimension, as the route leads you past numerous monasteries, stupas, and chortens, with the option to visit the revered pilgrimage site of Muktinath.

If your desire is to experience the raw allure of the mountains through peak climbing, Pisang Peak provides an excellent opportunity to learn and manage crevasses and fixed ropes while traversing its rocky and icy sections. While the climb is undeniably challenging and demanding, the spectacular views from the summit are a well-deserved reward for your hard work and perseverance. This expedition is more than just a climb; it’s an immersive experience that includes the unique charm of tented camps, offering a distinct high-altitude adventure.

The duration of your summit push can vary significantly (typically 8 to 12 hours), highly dependent on weather conditions. To successfully climb Pisang Peak, a good level of physical fitness is paramount, along with a readiness to learn essential climbing techniques.

Accommodations:

During your Pisang Peak climbing expedition, your accommodation will be arranged as follows:

  • Kathmandu and Pokhara: You will stay in comfortable 3-star hotels. All accommodations are on a twin-shared basis. A single supplement can be provided upon request at an additional cost.
  • During the Trek: We utilize local teahouses. In most parts of the lower elevation trek, rooms with attached washrooms will be available where possible. However, as you ascend to higher elevations, particularly closer to Pisang Peak Base Camp and High Camp, private washroom facilities become less common, and accommodation will be in tented camps. Himalayan Adventure Nepal will always strive to ensure your comfort and happiness.

Meals:

  • During Trekking and Climbing: All meals (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner) will be served, typically featuring a main course per meal. This includes the tented camp days at Pisang Peak Base Camp and High Camp.
  • Kathmandu and Pokhara: Only breakfast is included during your stay in these cities.
  • Welcome and Farewell Dinners: The hotel will also host welcome and farewell dinners for the group.
  • Cuisine: The most common dishes available on menus throughout the trek will include Nepalese, Tibetan, Indian, and popular Continental options. You’ll enjoy hearty buffet-style meals at the tent camps to fuel your climb.

Can I Accomplish This Climb?

Pisang Peak climbing is indeed a technical and challenging endeavor, requiring significant stamina. While prior extensive climbing experience is an asset, it is not strictly mandatory. Himalayan Adventure Nepal provides crucial pre-ice climbing training for all participants directly at Pisang Peak Base Camp. This training focuses on essential climbing gear usage, including ropes, ice axes, harnesses, and crampons, ensuring you are confident and competent for the ascent.

You should be prepared for substantial physical exertion. Trekking days typically involve 5-6 hours of walking daily. However, the summit day for Pisang Peak is particularly demanding, requiring an effort of up to 10-12 hours. Himalayan Adventure Nepal strongly advises you to prepare your body by jogging approximately 12 km every day for at least 3 months prior to your trip departure.

It is critically important to consult your doctor regarding any pre-existing medical conditions, especially those related to the heart, lungs, or blood, before undertaking this high-altitude expedition. Please inform us of any such conditions prior to booking.

Best Time to Travel:

The optimal seasons for undertaking the Pisang Peak Climbing expedition are:

  • Autumn (September to November): Offers stable weather conditions, clear skies, and excellent visibility, making it highly suitable for climbing.
  • Spring (March to May): Provides favorable climbing conditions, moderate temperatures, and the added beauty of blooming rhododendrons at lower altitudes.

If your preferred travel dates fall outside these peak seasons, please contact us. We are dedicated to customizing and making your trip viable, contingent on prevailing weather and safety conditions.

The trail further passes near the small village of Ghunsa, a cluster of flat mud roofs just below the trailhead. Now the trail goes through meadows where horses and yaks graze. Little but Gradual ascent is the key to avoiding altitude problems. Overnight at Guesthouse, Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.

We make our way to the foot of the pass, Throng Phedi today. Thorong Phedi is a small busy settlement catering to the needs of tired trekkers and climbers. Trekkers like us use this point as a base camp. Some visitors also attempt a hike to the High Camp today so that the next day can be easier for them. But, Himalayan Glacier’s team leader does not advise for this. Although we will have a tough day tomorrow, we stop at Thorong Phedi so that we can sleep sound rather than a risky sleep in higher altitude at High Camp. Overnight at Thorong Phedi.
