Everest Three High Passes Trek Overview: Conquer Iconic Passes
The Everest High Passes Trek is an unparalleled adventure that guides you through some of the most spectacular and challenging terrain in the Himalayas. Beyond the breathtaking peaks, you’ll witness the majestic Ngozumpa Glacier—the largest glacier in the Nepal Himalayas—and explore the serene Gokyo Valley, renowned for its collection of stone houses and meadows nestled on the shore of the great Dudh Pokhari (Gokyo Lake). Most importantly, this trek challenges you to cross three formidable high passes in the Everest Region: Kongma La Pass, Cho La Pass, and Renjo La Pass.
Your journey begins with a cultural immersion in Kathmandu Valley, where you’ll explore ancient historical and religious sites in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur. Witness authentic Newari culture and the palaces of medieval Royal Kings.
To commence the trek, you’ll take a scenic and thrilling flight to Lukla Airport, before descending to the Dudh Koshi River. From here, you’ll follow the main trail to Namche Bazaar, a prosperous village nestled in a secluded bowl-shaped region, offering a marvelous experience and spellbinding views of the Khumbu mountains like Ama Dablam (6,856m) and Thamserku (6,608m), along with immense vistas of Everest.
You’ll traverse the intricate, sometimes challenging, moraines of Ngozumpa Glacier. Be enchanted by the varied scenery of the Gokyo Valley, including a series of beautiful Gokyo Lakes. You’ll observe the first lake, Longpongo (4,690m), followed by the mesmerizing second lake, Taboche Tsho, with its shiny turquoise-blue waters. The picturesque Gokyo village, set against the backdrop of Cho-Oyu peak, provides a wonderful sight.
While the views from these passes are incredibly rewarding, they are equally challenging. Given the remote location and limited facilities, this part of the trek offers one of the most adventurous and beautiful experiences for trekkers. Mountain Expedition Nepal ensures you have the proper guidance and support for this unique mountain adventure.

Can I Be a Good Trekker on Everest 3 Passes Trek? Fitness & Preparation
The Everest High Passes Trek is classified as a difficult trek and is highly demanding. It is suitable for passionate walkers who have the ability to walk at least 5-6 hours a day with a light rucksack. Trekkers need to be prepared physically and mentally, as some days may require walking 8 to 9 hours. Walking at higher altitudes is significantly more physically demanding than at lower elevations; however, with good health, average physical fitness, a positive attitude, self-confidence, and strong determination, you can accomplish this trek successfully.
We highly recommend starting a regular jogging and intensive exercising regimen for at least a month prior to embarking on the trek to enhance your strength and stability.
