9 Days Bhutan Druk Path Trekking Overview

Along the old high-class route between Paro and Thimpu, “Himala Adventure Nepal”, also known as “Druk Trail Walk”, is an excellent short distance hike, perfect for those who are in Bhutan.

You will experience the countryside, the mountains, the alpine meadows, the glacial lakes and the monasteries. The first day of walking leads to the ruined Jeli Dzong, which is located in a mountain range above the Paro Valley and offers a magnificent view of Chomolhari.

During the following 4 days of hiking, we climbed the tree line and crossed several passages. On the way, we camped next to the crystal clear mountain lakes, visited the yak herders’ camp and enjoyed the magnificent panorama of the Tibetan border peaks, including Jitchu Drake and Gangkar Puensum. We visited the impressive Taktsang Monastery in the Paro Valley and visited Tashichho dzong in Thimpu.

You can fly to Paro from Bangkok, New Delhi, Kathmandu, Dhaka and other flights. We recommend that you fly from Bangkok because Drucker Airlines offers daily flights from Bangkok – Paro – Bangkok, while Drucker Airlines does not operate daily flights in other segments. In the evening, you will walk through the main shopping area of Paro. Overnight at the hotel. (including lunch and dinner)

We take a day trip to the Taktsang Monastery or the Tiger’s Nest, the most spectacular monastery, probably the most photographed monastery in Bhutan. It is said that Guru Rinpoche came here behind a tigress and meditated in the monastery, hence the name. It takes approximately 5 hours to arrive and from the point of view of the monastery. Lunch will be served in the cafeteria and then a short walk. We will have a relaxing night and we will take a break before the next day of walking. Overnight at the hotel. (Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner)

Today is a short day of hiking. We started from the top of the National Museum and gradually climbed to the camp. If the weather is fine, you can see the Paro valley and the surrounding mountains. The campsite is near the old Jele Dzong and we can visit it at night. Spend the night in the camp. (Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner)

We climbed for 1.5 hours and then climbed further through dense alpine forests and rhododendrons. The snowy peaks offer beautiful views, and during the day you may hear some pheasants monales. You may see yak shepherds near the campsite. Spend the night in the camp. (Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner)

The trail stretches along the ridge, and the landscape of the mountains and valleys is beautiful on a clear day. Our camp is near Lake Jimilantsho. This lake is famous for its huge squid. Spend the night in the camp. (Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner)

The trail takes you through the dwarf azalea trees beyond Lake Janetsho. Today you can find camps for some yak shepherds. We spent the night near the lake of Simkotra. Spend the night in the camp. (Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner)

After the lake, the trails climb gradually and, weather permitting, you will enjoy the magnificent view of the mountains. Gangker Phuensum, the highest mountain and other peaks in Bhutan. The path descends slowly through the eucalyptus forest and finally descends to the Phajoding Monastery, where you can see the city of Thimphu. The trekking from Phajoding to Thimphu has gone downhill through a forest area mostly blue pines. Walk quietly to Thimphu in about 2 hours. Overnight at the hotel. (Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner)
